We dived into a world of handmade crafts, gourmet foods and unique gifts to celebrate the arrival spring at the One of a Kind Show. It was refreshing to escape the big box companies and discover pure Canadian products. The best part was meeting the creative minds and small-business owners to hear the stories behind their craftwork. Here are our top picks of the booths we loved and felt enriched our experience. Make sure to check out their site!
TRICIA O Modern Retro Style Prints And Chic Paper Goods (www.triciao.ca)
Cute prints don’t have to be stored onto your pinterest board only to be never looked at again. Meet Tricia O, her quirky and colourful designs has me swooning! Her prints are flexible so they come in different colours and sizes to fit that frame you’ve been waiting to fill.
The Bean Ladies Soy Bean Snacks and Soups (www.thebeanladies.com)
If you’re like me, you love chips but know it’s carb-loaded and sodium filled nutritional content is a huge no-no. I’ve found the perfect solution! These Soybean Snacks from The Bean Ladies are packed with protein and the flavours awaken your senses! We weren’t afraid to sample all 21 flavours and take home 3 of our favourite: Pomegranate and Pear, Smoky Bacon and Apples N’ Cinnamon.
Jacqueline Poirier Custom Ceramic Art (www.jacquelinepoirier.com)
I went looking for this booth after seeing pictures of these dainty painted plates pop up on Instagram. I was not disappointed. Each hand painted piece of tableware is given love by Jacqueline Poirier, the resident artist at The Ritz-Carlton. Her plates mainly echo Toronto culture, food and animals. Perfect gift idea since she also does custom work.
Voisin’s Canadian Made Gourmet Maple Syrup & Products (www.vmaple.com)
Voisin’s is a longstanding Canadian family company. Since 1920, they’ve specialized in Maple Syrup and branched out to maple based products. We love their Jelly’s that can be used for dipping, cooking and spreading! The combination of ingredients are imaginative and balance the syrupy flavour well. Yumyum!
Matter Company Natural and Holistic Skincare (www.mattercompany.com)
I’ve been into skincare lately and reading up on a healthy amount of natural remedies to cure beauty dilemmas. That’s why I stopped by Matter Company to test out some of their products. I’m not someone we likes heavy scented products but their “Blush” line smells absolutely divine (a mix of bergamot and elemi). The body creme is ultra moisturizing without being too greasy (as I find most natural skincare products tend to be from the natural oils).
Rover Crafted Pet Clothing (www.theroverboutique.com)
Dogs + Bowties = Big Win. This adorable line of hand crafted pet clothing (specifically, collars and bowties) are exactly what we want to dress our dog in. They come in a variety of retro and fashionably hip prints that will give your canine a little sparkle.
